As much as I talk about how society’s emphasis on the experiences produced by systems of oppression is much greater than the persons experiencing it, I also think there’s a habit of overlooking how inherently intertwined someone’s experiences with oppression can be with other aspects of their life… we tend to forget that living creatively, or making do with what we have is often times a direct result of rarely or never having enough versus some sort of “challenge the system!” deal. There is a need to live creatively, to express ourselves creatively because there’s a need to survive.
